Here you can practice adventure sports such as: tubing, rappelling and mountain bike, loved by hundreds of tourists that visit Mindo every year.

This forest is a Protected Area of Ecuador; its altitude range goes from 1.180 to 4.780 meters, which corresponds to the top of Guagua Pichincha's volcano. It is a very important zone for the truthful development of the ecosystem.

The town of Mindo is one of the oldest of the North West. It was founded on the 20 of May of 1861; it has a surface of 50km and an altitude of 1250 meters. Its population arrives to 2.421 inhabitants.

Mindo was a very important Yumbo-Nigua colony, a pre-Incasic Indian group, which lived in this territory for a very long time. The Yumbos were very good for commerce and they were the link between the Sierra and the Coast. With the arrival of the Spanish domination this settlement suffered a lot, till it disappeared. In 1956 this area was donated for the creation of Mindo's town, divided in 64 fractions.

The vegetation of the zone is mostly natural cloudy forest. In its flora we found trees of: cedar, aguacatillo, red arrayán, white canelo, and plants of: blackberry, aji de monte, ortiga. Its biggest treasure is the great variety of orchids, more than4.500 species.

Mindo has a very rich bird life, the richest one of the country with approximately 350 different species of birds, the more important ones are: partridges, roosters of the rock, colibries, woodpeckers etc. Some animals like butterflies, bats, squirrels, bear of eyeglasses, and small amphibious are a great attraction of this beautiful place.

The town of Mindo counts with the following services: electricity power, drinking-water, sewage system and conventional telephone lines, there is no service for cellular phones at the moment, but it will be ready in a close future. There is a health center, and for emergencies there is the Hospital of Nanegalito (a close town). Tourism is the principal activity in the zone; there are plenty of tour operators and hostels for national and international tourists, and for all budges.
